Acclaimed novelist Edmund White's first historical novel centers on two long-forgotten Englishwomen -- Frances Trollope, the mother of the novelist Anthony Trollope, and Fanny Wright, an aristocrat and early feminist who persuaded Mrs. Trollope to join her in establishing a utopian community in the U.S. in the mid 1800s. White imagines their quirky friendship in this novel.
