Long before he was a U.S. Senator and Presidential candidate, Bob Dole was just a kid from Russell, Kansas, who joined the Army after Pearl Harbor and was eventually sent to Italy to fight. Gravely wounded in the closing weeks of the war, Dole spent three years in convalescence. His book is his firsthand account of those early years and how the war changed everything for him.
