Not long ago the Michigan historical commission unveiled a marker at the Detroit home of an obstetrician who made history in 1925 -- by buying the house. Dr. Ossian Sweet was black, the house was in a white neighborhood. When a mob threatened Sweet's family, shots were fired and one of the attackers was killed. Dr. Sweet and his brother were put on trial. Phyllis Vine retells the story in this book.
