A teenage girl's discovery of a centuries-old book in her father's library gets her heart pumping. Then she discovers a stack of very old letters, all of which begin with the ominous greeting, "My dear and unfortunate successor..." In Elizabeth Kostova's debut novel the book and the letters seem to point to the possibility that the medieval Vlad the Impaler -- also known as Dracula -- is still alive.

Elizabeth Kostova is the author of the international bestseller The Historian. She graduated from Yale and holds an MFA from the University of Michigan, where she won the Hopwood Award for the Novel-in-Progress.
