In the early 1990s, when refugees were pouring out of Haiti, many wound up in U.S. detention at Guant?namo Bay. Guarded by U.S. troops, they were not charged with any crime, but were not permitted to leave. Then in 1992 a group of Yale law students took up their cause, in what appeared to be a quixotic undertaking now described in their classmate Brandt Goldstein's book Storming the Court.
