The human mind has capacities we are only beginning to understand, and it may be that one of them is the ability to retain information in our short-term memory even after we're dead. That premise is the foundation of the debut mystery-thriller by former Washington, D.C. cop George Shuman, called 18 Seconds. His protagonist is a blind woman named Sherry Moore, who has the unnerving ability to "see" the last 18 seconds of someone's life.
