Once, when she was a little girl in Indianapolis, a playmate told Janet Langhart Cohen, "You're pretty for a colored girl." It was an early indicator of the kind of prejudices and obstacles she was going to face, but as she describes in this memoir, triumph is sweet. She went on to become a model, a successful TV journalist and talk show host, and wife of Clinton administration Defense Secretary William Cohen.
