Do a Google search for the term "Stalag 17" and you'll find dozens of links to the 1953 movie by that name, or the play it's based on. But to several thousand American fliers in World War Two, Stalag 17 was no movie -- it was one of Nazi Germany's most feared POW camps. Former B-24 gunner and engineer Ned Handy was held for a year at Stalag 17, starting not long before the D-Day invasion in 1944.
